Mirror

Mirror, Mirror on the wall; Have I got it?
'Cause Mirror you've always told me who I am
I'm finding It's not easy to be perfect
So sorry, you won't define me
Sorry, you don't own me

Chorus
Who are you to tell me
that I'm less than what I should be?
Who are you?  Who are you?
I don't need to listen
to the list of things I should do
I won't try;  I won't try
You don't define me; You don't define me

Mirror I am seeing a new reflection
I'm looking into the eyes of He who made me
To Him I have beauty beyond compare

Song | Rebecca's testimony| Lauren's Testimony| Alyssa's Testimony

I just wanted to share this song with all of you. I heard it for the first time a month ago
and I just bought the CD today.

I want you to picture two mirrors. One is the feelings of worthlessness, dissatisfaction,
loneliness, etc. Right away the song says, "So sorry you don't define me, Sorry you don't own me." I want all of you to have the strength to say that to the mirror (lies) that bring you down.

The mirror is nothing."who are you?" The people who tell you, you don't matter, who are they?
The models that don't look like you, who are they? They do not define you.
They do not own you. You do not need to listen. Do you know that you don't have to listen?

I also just finished watching the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I cannot help but
relate the volcano scene to eating disorders. When Frodo is about to drop the ring into Mt. Doom and after the ring (ED's) Have caused him so many hardships and so much pain he cannot drop the ring into the lava to destroy it. The choice seems so obvious to everyone around him and especially Sam couldn't understand why this choice was so hard. The ring completely changed Frodo just as the eating disorders completely changed us.

Anyway.watch the rest to find out what happened. Frodo had people helping him through his journey. He would never have even made it to Mt. Doom to make the final decision on his own.
He had all the resources to make the right choice. On your journey you may have just received the "ring" You may be in the middle of the journey (recovering) or you may have gotten
treatment and have all the resources to make a choice. You may be standing at the edge of Mt. Doom with the most important decision of your life. What is your decision going to be?

The mirror may have always told you "who you are" and you are finding that you can't
measure up. I'd say you need a new mirror. The mirror of a God who looks at you with love and thinks about you more than the "sands on the sea shore." The God who made you
"fearfully and wonderfully." If you want to know more truth about this God please visit www.fathersloveletter.com and click on watch flash preview presentation. God and the
reflection you will see through him will not be like any other you have ever heard. He is
the one who made you. "and to Him I have beauty beyond compare. I know He defines me"
We all need to see a new reflection. The original reflection obviously has not been a very productive one. It has only brought us into destroying ourselves and now we have the
wonderful option of what to do from here on out. You have a choice. You do not have to
listen just because that's what you've always done.

I heard a really amazing idea a while ago that I wanted to share with you.
Think of the lies you tell yourself every day; "I don't look good enough; if I changed
this people would like me; I'm not good enough at school; I'm not a good enough daughter
or mother."

When these lies enter our mind it's like someone was telling us we were Chinese (or something else that is bluntly opposite of who we really are).

If someone told you that your green sweater looked really nice when you were wearing a red one....it would be bluntly obvious that what they were saying was not true. You would look
at that person like they were crazy.   So why should the lies we tell ourselves be so believable. They are also completely opposite of who we are. It doesn't make sense and it shouldn't.

Challenge of the week: Define what mirror you are using to determine who you are.

Define where you are on the journey to Mt. Doom.

Define what you will do to change the mirror that is define you (if it is the negative one)
and what people can help you reach your final destination.

Remember that you don't have to listen to the lies. You don't have to be defined or owned by
the things that destroy you.
