Letting Go

Read Letting go of the Past in the Non-Biblical section before reading this…

Jeremiah 17:14 "Heal me, O Lord and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for Thou art my praise."

The people of Israel cried this out when God was upset with them for never trusting him and never running to Him in their times of trouble.

Isaiah 57:18 "I have seen what they do, but I will heal them anyway! I will lead them and comfort those who mourn."

God is capable of healing you mentally, physically, situationally, anything, if you will let him. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." I'm sure you've all heard that verse before but do you really grasp what it means. It's saying that no matter what happens, no matter what challenge you are faced with, no matter what bad stuff comes into your life, with Christ you WILL NOT be defeated!!

So I challenge you to step out of your comfort zones and give your hurt and pain to God. He can heal you and He can help you stop hurting inside and stop the self-destructive behavior outside.

"To live righteously is to live according to what God says is right. No matter what happened to you, you can live without bitterness or hatred. You can live a life free from that which would otherwise distort, disfigure, or destroy you. Bitterness can go and forgiveness can be received and extended. You can be whole! You can be healed!" (59, Kay Arthur's Lord Heal by Hurts).

Matthew 18:22 Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him and Jesus reply's "seven times seventy." That's a lot of times to forgive someone but that is what we need to do.

Challenge of the Week: Think of the person(s) who has hurt you. Write out what they did to you and how you feel about them and about yourself after it happened. Now, this is hard to do, it's okay to cry but please don't do anything self-destructive.

Past memories are very hard to bring up. Okay, Now that you have this written down…think about it, pray about it. God will deal with that persons actions and he will walk with you, guide you and heal you. Let God lead you in the steps you need to take to overcome this wound.

Please note: This is not a counseling site, but rather, we are an online support group for those struggling with anorexia, bulimia and self injury. If you have any of these disorders or know someone who does, please encourage them to receive medical attention and counseling.
